Two Inwood men arrested for assault at Mott Avenue bar

Osvaldo Bonilla, 20, of Mott Avenue, and Richey Rodriguez, 23, of Wanser Avenue, both of Inwood were arrested and charged with assault-second degree for their alleged involvement in an attack on at least one man in the early morning hours of Jan. 7. Rodriguez was also charged with resisting arrest.

A 34-year-old man left the Carisma Bar at 199 Mott Avenue in Lawrence and saw what police called a “large disturbance” in the parking lot. Bonilla and Rodriguez then approached him and repeatedly hit him about the face and head, and knocked the man to the ground, police said.

When he was on the ground, another man struck him with a tire iron, according to police. Fourth Precinct officers responded to the scene and saw two other men, 23 and 32, on the ground.

Police arrested Bonilla and following a brief struggle Rodriguez was also arrested. After being taken to a local hospital, the 34-year-old was treated for a fractured rib and released and the 32-year-old was treated for multiple bruises and cuts and released. The 23-year-old was admitted for blunt trauma to his chest and in critical condition, police said.
