Memorial Day was commemorated in Inwood as the annual parade formed at the Long Island Railroad train station and proceeded on Doughty Boulevard to the John Oliveri Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1582 headquarters by Mott Avenue and Doughty Boulevard.

A brief ceremony was conducted by the VFW memorial. In addition to the post’s veterans marching in the parade and the New York City Police Marching Band, several community organizations took part, including the Inwood Fire Department, the Lawrence High School Marching Band, Peninsula Kiwanis and the Order of Sons of Italy Leonardo da Vinci 2385 of Inwood.
