Water main replacement in Hewlett Harbor

Posted

Beginning on Oct. 6, 900 feet of old water main will be replaced with new eight-inch ductile iron water main along Pepperidge Road between Everit Avenue and Azure Place in Hewlett Harbor by New York American Water at a cost of $300,000, NYAW officials stated in a news release. A dozen service lines and a fire hydrant will also be replaced.

The work is expected to take four weeks. All construction will take place between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Residents should be aware that sections of the street where construction is taking place might be closed to traffic when work is in progress. New York American Water will coordinate with residents near the construction site to minimize disruptions, officials said. Final road restoration will be completed by the Hewlett Harbor drainage project contractor.

“Replacing aging water mains is critical to our mission of providing quality, reliable water service to our customers,” New York American Water Director of Engineering John Kilpatrick stated in the release. “The replacement of this infrastructure allows us to achieve a higher degree of customer satisfaction while modernizing our system and strengthening its resilience for the future.”

NYAW asks customers to recognize the essential work being done and reminds them to adhere to social distancing rules for everyone’s safety.
