The 2018-19 school year got under way for the Hewlett-Woodmere and Lawrence school districts on Tuesday. Ogden Elementary School students — second through fifth grade — were welcomed back with an outdoor party that included Belgian-style waffles from the Waffle Cabin of Long Beach, a hook and ladder track from the Hewlett Fire Department, dancing and a karate exhibition by Warren Levi Martial Arts. Returning to school was more low-key in the Lawrence School District, as district officials visited each of the four school campuses and helped ensure that whether the students arrived on foot, in cars or on buses, the transition from summer was a smooth one.
