Woodmere and Hewlett GOP clubs to host kickoff

Posted

The new Woodmere Republican and Hewlett Republican clubs will hold a kickoff event on June 1 from 7:15 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Hewlett-Woodmere Public Library.

The free event will feature pareve refreshments and speeches from Ann Salpeter Schockett of Woodmere and Charles Kovit of Hewlett. Nassau County and Town of Hempstead representatives and local officials will also be on hand.

Both Schockett and Kovit were both unanimously voted in as executive leaders for Woodmere and Hewlett in March. Schockett is currently director of print publications at Nassau Police Department headquarters and has served for Cedarhurst Mayor Andrew Parise as director of public relations. Her political experience has included serving as state campaign coordinator for former New York State GOP Leader George Clark and volunteering to help State Senator Dean Skelos (R-Rockville Centre) in his initial and successful campaign run in 1984 over incumbent Carl Berman.

Kovit has served as senior deputy town attorney of the Town of Hempstead since 1998. He also serves as deputy village prosecutor for the Village of Cedarhurst, counsel for the Hewlett Bay Fire District and village attorney for the Village of Atlantic Beach.

Both Kovit and Schockett are urging people to attend the event and voice any concerns they have on issues. “If you have ideas, suggestions or concerns about anything from a broken storm drain to high taxes you feel do not reflect the quality of services you deserve, we want to hear about it," said Kovit. "Our goal is to be your direct voice to government.”

"With Republican leadership in both the town and county governments, we are now the frontline voice of Hewlett and Woodmere area residents," said Schockett. "Our two new clubs will further raise government's standards to meet the high principles of our communities."
