Woodmere man charged in Hewlett Harbor burglary

After being confronted by the homeowner, a Woodmere man removed the items from his car he had taken from a Hewlett Harbor house on Seawane Drive and fled in the vehicle on Oct. 8, according to police.

Fourth Precinct officers found Torrey Wells, 24, of Woodmere Boulevard in Woodmere, and his car at the intersection at Broadway and Franklin Avenue in Hewlett at 9:43 a.m. on that Tuesday. Following their investigation they arrested Wells. His unregistered and uninsured car was impounded, according to police. The items initially taken were a guitar, a guitar book, chess set and a marionette.

The homeowner, a 50-year-old man, had come home to find several of his items inside a green Toyota Camry that was parked in front of the house on Seawane Drive that Tuesday morning, according to police.

When the man entered his house, he found Wells inside the home. Wells then went outside and removed all the items from his car, left them on the walkway and fled, police said.

Wells was charged with burglary third-degree, operating an unregistered vehicle, operating an uninsured vehicle and having an obstructed license plate.
