After an 18-month battle with cancer Woodmere resident Leonard S. Faber died on April 8 at North Shore University Hospital from complications relating to chemotherapy treatment from acute myeloid leukemia. He was 70.

Born on March 8, 1941 in the Bronx, Faber graduated from Theodore Roosevelt High School in the Fordham section of that borough. In 1962, he earned a Bachelor of Science degree from New York University (NYU). A member of the Tau Epilson Phi fraternity, Faber also served in the Army Reserves until 1968.

A Woodmere resident for 40 years, he worked a majority of his life in the wholesale candy and tobacco business and owned several businesses. Following his retirement from that industry, Faber became a licensed insurance agent and until recently worked for Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Company.

He enjoyed spending time with his family, swimming, cooking and had a warm sense of humor, his family said. “His family loved him dearly, and he was a loving husband and father, he will be missed,” said his wife Nan Geist Faber, a Woodmere attorney.

In addition to his wife, Faber is survived by his; daughter Jennifer, a Brandeis University graduate; son Mark, a junior at NYU and a sister, Suzanne Blucher of Long Beach.

A funeral service was held on April 11 at Riverside Chapel in Hewlett. He was interred at New Montefiore Cemetery in Farmingdale.
