In support of Habitat World Day, and to raise awareness of the current housing crisis and the need for adequate housing in Nassau, local residents participated in Habitat For Humanity of Nassau County’s three-mile Walk-A-Thon on Oct. 30, at Eisenhower Park in East Meadow. Among those residents were several H. Frank Carey High School students, who recently created a Habitat For Humanity club to support HFHNC. more

The H. Frank Carey High School’s first-ever traveling boys’ lacrosse team — comprised of 20 9th, 10th and 11th-graders — competed throughout the state this summer, completing its season with a 4-7-2 record. The team was initiated by Tom Aiello and Anthony Tufano, head varsity coaches at Carey, and played 13 games this summer, including two local tournaments at SUNY Farmingdale and Hofstra University, and the Tri-State Tournament, which was held in New Jersey. more

The Sewanhaka Central High School budget passed this evening, with 4,628 votes in support of the budget, and 3,028 votes against it. This year's turnout — 7,656 voters — was slightly lower than last year's, when nearly 10,000 residents came to the polls to vote for the 2010-11 budget. more
