There's plenty of action on local stages this weekend. Nassau Community College students perform Eric Bogosian's "Suburbia," while Plaza Theatrical Productions stages it's holiday confection, A Fairy Tale Winter" and Lynbrook pianist Jeffrey Biegel performs a benefit for Sandy victims. more
In a quiet corner of the main gymnasium at Nassau Community College’s athletic center in Garden City, where basketball games and wrestling matches are normally held, Red Cross volunteers have fashioned a small, makeshift daycare center out of room dividers, pinning up newsprint where children can draw pictures in crayon. There are books for reading as well, but little else. more
Weary homeowners battered by Hurricane Sandy began to trickle into the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s mobile Disaster Recovery Center at Nassau Community College’s Student Union, a red-brick building on the west side of the campus, when it opened last Friday. The center was set up to help homeowners who suffered losses in the massive storm to file for grants that will enable them to rebuild. more
