Readers, we finally have some clarification on the prosecutions of detainees housed at Guantanamo Bay. As it turns out, as many as nine lawyers who work at the Department of Justice specialize in terrorism and related issues and have represented or advocated on behalf of Guantanamo prisoners. Now these very same lawyers, who were appointed to the Justice Department by President Obama, are in charge of deciding whether the Guantanamo prisoners should be freed. more

Well, to be honest, I can, and I would imagine most of the country’s unemployed can as well. I own a small company and we have dropped from 15 to nine employees over the past two years. more
To the Editor: At the recent Hempstead Town Board meeting, I attended to express my opinion on the salary increases they gave themselves. The manner and timing of the increases was disingenuous at best, showing a lack of regard for the poor economy. more

State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli recently completed audits of New York’s 733 public school districts and BOCES. The audits were part of a series of legislation following a scandal in the Roslyn School District in which administrators embezzled $11 million. more

Before President Obama meets with Democratic and Republican congressional leaders at Blair House Feb. 25 to hammer out a bipartisan health reform agreement — or at least to argue over one — I would suggest that he first hold a news conference to reframe the health care debate. more
