Regardless of whether you’re a politician in Washington or in Albany, the word “leader” is a big deal. There isn’t a member of Congress or a state legislator who doesn’t aspire to that title.

There are lots of dumb mistakes you can make in politics. Among them are offending some big voting group or saying crude things about the opposition party.

There are all kinds of quirky shows on television. One of the oldest ones is “Demolition Derby.” The show involves old cars or trucks smashing into one another, and the last vehicle capable of moving is declared the winner.

It’s hard to believe that in a country that has over 310 million people, we can’t find a better crop of people to run for president. Putting Mitt Romney and Jon Huntsman aside, the rest of the lineup is an example of how flawed the presidential primary system actually is.

Ican’t help wishing it was November 2012, when the political world around us promises to be so much different than it is now. Just think: If the national elections were over, we would know a lot more about the future of our country and which party will control our lives.
