The East Rockaway Fire Department was called to a fire in progress at 200 Main Street Wednesday night. The three residents, one of whom called in the fire, were waiting outside of their home, all safe, when firemen arrived. The firefighters did, however, rescue a mother cat and her three kittens from the second floor of the home. The first blizzard of the season dumped more than a foot of snow in our area Saturday night to Sunday morning, with high winds and heavy, drifting snow accumulating over night. more
The Lynbrook Winter Celebration was full of fun, with a petting zoo, lively dancers, carolling, a tree lighting, and a visit from Santa. Local merchants stayed open sell their wares and serve sweet treats and hot chocolate to the chilly crowd. more
