A Long Beach man was killed in a fatal motorcycle accident on Lawson Boulevard in Oceanside Wednesday, March 17. Police said Mark Dejak, 21, formerly of Lynbrook, was driving his motorcycle north on Lawson when he hit a bus turning left across the northbound lanes into a school bus parking lot just before 5 p.m. more

Michael McHale, a 16-year-old student at Lynbrook High School, was hit by a westbound, non-passenger train at the Lynbrook Long Island Rail Road station at about 5:40 p.m. on March 9, Metropolitan Transit Authority officials said. McHale was later pronounced dead at South Nassau Communities Hospital. The Lynbrook Fire Department was called to the station platform, answering a report of a person being hit by a train, said Steve Grogan, spokesman for the department. Grogan said McHale did not respond to resusitation efforts, and was rushed to the hospital. Sam Zambuto, spokesman for the Long Island Rail Road, said that the MTA police are investigating the incident as a possible suicide. As a result of the incident, service was affected on the Babylon branch, and riders were redirected to the Long Beach branch, according to Zambuto. more

The Nassau County Robbery Squad arrested John Brooks, 58, of Springfield Gardens, in connection with a series of bank robberies that started in October of 2009. One of those banks was the Bethpage Federal Credit Union located at 613 Sunrise Highway, Lynbrook, which was held up on Dec. 16, 2009. more
Dan Peck was born into a family of leaders.
