The Bank of America on Main Street in East Rockaway was robbed late Tuesday afternoon for the second time in three months. Police detectives investigated at the scene as a police helicopter flew overhead. Fourth precinct police described the man as being white, wearing a blue, sleeveless shirt, with a crew-cut hair style and looking "like a construction worker." They said he may have gotten into a red car. They did not reveal if a weapon was used in the robbery, or how much money was taken. more

East Rockaway resident Mike Malloy, left, manager of Pet Behavior Services at North Shore Animal League America, took “Best in Show” with shelter dog Henry while on the talk show “The View” Feb. 19. Malloy was Henry’s handler on the segment, which contested five dogs from NSALA against five audience members’ dogs in a friendly competition. more
A man wearing a navy blue hooded jacket, a Yankees baseball cap, and sunglasses entered the Bank of America on Main Street in East Rockaway on Monday and presented a note to the teller demanding money, according to police. more
Last Friday, I saw the flashing lights of a police car shining into our living room window. I looked out and saw a police officer and two other men who had gotten out of their cars, all trying to entice a large and frightened dog. I suspect they were trying to read his collar, which told us that he belonged to someone and could be far away from home. more
The Herald was there for North Shore Animal League America's 4th annual DogCatemy Celebrity Gala in the Cipriani Ballroom in Manhattan on Novemeber 5, presented by Purina ONE. Beautiful and famous two and four-legged celebrities walked the green carpet, smiling and barking for the cameras. more
