Howard Kopel is running for his second term as county legislator of the 7th Legislative District. The Lawrence resident was elected in 2009 after defeating incumbent Jeff Toback. He is being challenged by Adam Moser, a Democrat from Hewlett. Moser is a former district court judge, who has a Rockville Centre legal practice. The 7th L.D. includes the Five Towns communities of Cedarhurst, Inwood, Hewlett, Lawrence and Woodmere, South Valley Stream, Oceanside, Island Park and portions of East Rockaway and Bay Park. more

Extreme amounts of shoreline trash have been reported by residents of East Rockaway and Bay Park. Coffee cups, water bottles, and assorted litter can also be seen all over Long Island’s south shore waterways. Many people think that litter in the Bay Park area is a result of careless boaters but that is not the case: street litter from as far north as Garden City washes into storm drains that empty, unfiltered, directly into south shore waterways. more

After a duck hunter lost his watercraft, he became stranded on the marsh south of Bay Park in East Rockaway. With his dog wet from being in the freezing water and with the temperature dropping fast, the East Rockaway Fire Department, along with Nassau County Police Marine units were called to the location. more
