It will be a three-way race in November for Carolyn McCarthy’s 4th Congressional District seat. Nassau County Legislator Francis X. Becker (R-Lynbrook), winner of the June 26 Republican primary, lost on the Conservative ticket to Frank Scaturro — and Scaturro is coming out fighting.

Voters in the 4th Congressional District will choose between 14-year incumbent Carolyn McCarthy, a Democrat, and Republican Francis X. Becker, a 14-year Nassau County legislator, on Election Day.
Campaigns are different for incumbents and challengers. An incumbent needs to convince the voting public — and the media — that he or she has done a good job and will continue to do so. A challenger needs to have a plan, needs to show how that plan would be carried out, and has to convince voters that he or she will do a better job than the incumbent.
