Merrick board agrees to keep Spanish

The Merrick School District administration reversed course last Tuesday on a recent recommendation to cut Spanish from the curriculum, citing the importance of foreign language in the elementary school, or FLES, and pledging to keep and improve Merrick’s Spanish program. more

Roberta Sanders, at 86, was teacher, trustee

Roberta Joan (Frost) Sanders died peacefully at home at the age of 86. She and her husband raised their family in Merrick, where Sanders was a resident for more than 40 years and was active in many civic and community activities, including serving on the Bellmore-Merrick Central High School District Board of Education. more
