Island Park Mayor James Ruzicka estimated that Little Beach has eroded 75 percent over the last decade. An Army Corps of Engineers report recommends replacing the deteriorating eastern bulkhead of the beach, at right, which abuts Suffolk Road. Sen. Demolition began two weeks ago on the building at the southeast corner of Rockaway Avenue and Sunrise Highway in Valley Stream, the former site of the adult store. It and other neighboring buildings are coming down to make way for a new apartment building, which will include stores on the first floor and 64 housing units above.
