As difficult as it is to beat a quality opponent three times in the same season, Mepham accomplished the feat against Oceanside on the soccer pitch this fall and the latest decision — 2-1 last Friday — earned the Lady Pirates a trip to the Nassau Class AA semifinals.

The W. C. Mepham High School Alumni Association hosted several events in honor of the school’s 75th anniversary last weekend.
The celebrations kicked off on Saturday, Sept. 8, with the All-Class Pirates’ Picnic Reunion at Wantagh State Park. Alumni from different graduating classes were invited to bring their own food and catch up with old friends, organizers said. Nassau County Legislator Dave Denenberg also attended.

In one of the stranger endings to any softball game, let alone a postseason matchup, a dead ball run awarded after a wild pitch with runners on first and third and one out in the bottom of the ninth pushed No. 2 East Meadow past No. 7 Mepham, 1-0, in the quarterfinal round of the Nassau Class AA playoffs.
