The Calhoun girls’ varsity badminton team recently won the Nassau County Championship with a 4-3 victory over Great Neck South. The Calhoun girls finished the season with a 15-0 record –– and their second straight championship. Team Captain Christina Strezenec won the overall singles title, beating out all other Nassau badminton players in a two-day tournament. With this win, Strezenec became the only player in Calhoun history to win four county titles playing a varsity sport. more

For the second straight year, the Mepham High School kickline team placed first in two categories at the Scholastic Kickline Competition at Nassau Community College, earning the Champion of Champions title in the lyrical and pom categories after securing the highest cumulative score in a series of three scholastic competitions Feb. 28. The girls also placed first in kick in their division. more
Calhoun High School senior Kevin Harvey went into Wednesday’s Section VIII winter track state qualifier at St. Anthony’s High School in Huntington with one goal in mind –– place in the Top Three. Medaling there would get him to the state championship meet at Cornell on March 6. more

Truth is, she feels quite comfortable there, so much so that she captured second place in the Tri-State NFL Punt, Pass and Kick Championships in the 12-13 year-old division at the Meadowlands Arena recently. more
