Allison Lutz, who was born and grew up in Baldwin, spent many summer days on the boat her grandfather, William Lutz, kept at the Alpha Sigma Boat Club in south Bellmore. Though he died 20 years ago, the family has continued to dock boats there, and it has always held a special place in Lutz’s heart. When her boyfriend of 12 years, Tom Ruggiero, 35, also from Baldwin, proposed on Valentine’s Day in 2010, the Beach Street club seemed like the obvious place to get married.

Sept 4: Fears of extensive flooding, power outages and property damage fizzled on Friday as Hurricane Earl passed far enough out to sea that Nassau County suffered little more than scattered beach flooding.
Even Jones Beach State Park, where extensive flooding was reported, had some areas open for swimming today and the Stone Temple Pilots concert planned for tonight at the Nikon at Jones Beach Theater will take place as scheduled.
