For just the second time ever, female athletes at John F. Kennedy High School in Bellmore took to the school’s main field for a nighttime game last Thursday, Sept. 26. Like the following night’s Homecoming game between Kennedy and South Side High School’s football teams, relatives and friends of players stood cheering in the stands, music blared from loudspeakers, and the JFK Sports Boosters Club sold school clothing. more

Merrick Chamber of Commerce Festival to kick off Sept. 27
The Merrick Chamber of Commerce is gearing up for what promises to be its largest Fall Festival to date. The fair is set to take place Sept. 27 to 29, and so far more than 150 chamber members, from restaurateurs to doctors, have requested booths, along with 150 crafts vendors, according to Douglas Mills, the chamber’s treasurer and the festival’s founder. more

Her showroom will be temporarily housed at Republic Lighting in Bellmore until her building can be restored. First a flood, then a fire for Merrick Road business
Ever since Patricia Salcedo started a small window-treatment business at age 25 in a rented 700-square-foot space at a Valley Stream flooring shop nearly 25 years ago, she had dreamed of opening her own design showroom –– a big, bold, beautiful space where clients and designers could sit in comfort and plan.
