There will likely be one less sixth grade classroom teacher at Chatterton School come the fall. Merrick Superintendent Dominick Palma said this is due to declining student enrollment. He described a budget for next school year that would “continue to maintain a high quality education for the children” and would be cost-neutral to Merrick property taxpayers after they receive a rebate check from the state.

The Bellmore-Merrick Central High School District’s 2014-15 budget is set to rise by 1.97 percent, from $136.5 million this year to a little more than $139 million next year.
