Dec. vote set on $31.8 Mil school bond

Rockville Centre's five school board trustees voted unanimously to accept a State Environmental Quality Review Act study that concluded that the proposed renovations of South Side High School would have “no significant adverse environmental impact.” The vote paved the way for the board to authorize, also unanimously, a special district meeting on Thursday, Dec. 17, for the public to vote on the proposed $31.8 million bond issue referendum. During an inspection of Rockville Centre schools on Sept. 2, South Side High School Principal Dr. Carol Burris described how the school's cafeteria is the source of safety, security and educational impediments due to its size and design. She said that as the cafeteria is now, it would take seven periods to serve all students in the building.
