The Bellmore-Merrick junior-varsity Bulldogs hockey team captured the Nassau County High School Hockey League Championship on Feb. 23 with a 4-1 victory over Port Washington. The squad ended the year with a 19-1 record. The only loss was to Port Washington earlier in the month. more
With the Bellmore-Merrick Bulldogs’ hopes of winning their first-ever Nassau County hockey championship sitting on the end of his stick in overtime against No. 2 Long Beach on Feb. 26, Mepham High School junior Jon Olson scored perhaps the biggest goal of his Bulldogs’ career — and that’s saying something, minutes earlier he had scored the game-tying goal with just 1:22 remaining in the third period. more
An unidentified white male entered the TD Bank at 2260 Merrick Road in Merrick on March 3 and handed a teller a note demanding cash. According to Nassau County police, she tore it up and threw it in the garbage. The man then ran off. more
