Emmanuel Habimana, a Rwandan filmmaker and lecturer who as a young boy in 1994 survived the Rwandan Genocide, addressed students in March at Calhoun High School. These memories date from 1992, Habimana said, when he was 7 years old. Sarah Sandler founded a Glamour Gals chapter at Calhoun this year after being inspired by the charity’s mission to foster self-esteem and mutual respect between two generations. Gillian, a liver transplant survivor, is a “Wish Ambassador” for Make-A-Wish and was recently honored with the U.S. Tennis Association Eastern Section’s Service to/People with Disabilities Award.

Gillian Cohen was just 7 years old when she received a life-saving liver transplant, but she has never forgotten it. Now a junior at Calhoun High School, Gillian spends much of her time working to help ensure that others in need of organ transplants get the same second chance at life that she did. St. Baldrick's fundraiser returning to Calhoun

In the fall of her junior year at Calhoun High School, soccer star Kayla Cappuzzo, now an 18-year-old senior, played with her travel team, the Albertson Fury ’95, in a college showcase sponsored by the Elite Clubs National League in San Diego. Immediately after, she received an email from Tracey Leone, head women’s coach at Northeastern University. Then she heard from Leone’s husband, Ray, Harvard’s head coach. more
