The Central High School District will allow community youth groups to continue to use the football fields at Merrick Avenue and Grand Avenue middle schools through Oct. 31. Thereafter, the fields will be off limits to youth groups. The football fields at Calhoun, Kennedy and Mepham high schools will be off limits this fall and beyond. At a July 13 public meeting, the Bellmore-Merrick Central Board of Education announced that it would allow only Central District teams to play on its five main football fields, thereby prohibiting youth groups from using the fields for football, soccer, lacrosse and other sports. more
