It would be inaccurate to describe the population of Rockville Centre as a mosaic — the village is, after all, 88 percent white — but 2010 U.S. Census data show that it has become slightly more diverse since the last census, in 2000.

Sara Karol, a Calhoun High School senior, was recently selected as a scholar in the 2010-11 National Hispanic Recognition Scholars Program. The National Hispanic Recognition Program, established in 1983, is a College Board program that provides national recognition of the exceptional academic achievements of Hispanic high school seniors and identifies them for postsecondary institutions.
