East Rockaway resident Ed Corrado has announced his candidacy for trustee in the March 2011 village elections. He is seeking public office for the first time. “Reviewing all village personnel expenses will shine light on what’s really going on with our money,” said Corrado, who will represent the Pride Party. “I’m all for fiscal responsibility and good government — that’s why I join our next mayor, Fran Lenahan, in seeking to see where our hard-earned money is going.” more

Residents, friends and family members are grieving over the loss of East Rockaway Mayor Edward Sieban, who died unexpectedly on July 3 after a brief stay at Winthrop University Hospital. Sieban was 49. The cause of death was acute pancreatitis. more

No limits for Hofstra lacrosse

With the Hofstra men’s lacrosse team returning 21 players in 2010 coming off its second straight NCAA Tournament appearance last year, fourth-year head coach Seth Tierney said there is no limit as to how far the Pride can go in the start of a new decade. more

Hofstra ends football program

Hofstra University president Stuart Rabinowitz announced this morning that its Board of Trustees has voted unanimously to eliminate the school's football program and will reinvest those resources into new academic programs and need-based scholarships. more
