South Side Middle School students in grades six, seven and eight attended a panel discussion titled Challenge to Choose Wisely on Sept. 8, their second day of classes, focusing on the challenges that await them in their teenage years. The theme of the hour-long program, which was presented three times during the day and tailored to each grade level, was making safe and smart choices.

You can hear much laughter coming from the adults in the Peninsula Counseling Center’s Out and About program during their weekly meetings every Thursday at Temple Am Echad in Lynbrook. The group members love to tell jokes, inspire smiles and share stories with one another.

Late last month, the Rockville Centre Public Library played host to the Rockville Centre Youth Council and three young men from Phoenix House, a drug and alcohol rehabilitation clinic, who talked to local teens and adults about their lives, becoming addicted to heroin and going to prison.
