The youngest division of the Bellmore Heat tournament baseball team was only formed this winter, but the 8-year-olds are already champions.
Coaches said the boys are the National Junior Baseball League 2013 Long Island National League champions, as they defeated the Long Island Baymen Blue Knights of Lake Ronkonkoma on June 16.

The boys will be playing on 75-foot base paths in the 11U division this spring, and they're training indoors this winter to prepare for their second season together.

Weary homeowners battered by Hurricane Sandy began to trickle into the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s mobile Disaster Recovery Center at Nassau Community College’s Student Union, a red-brick building on the west side of the campus, when it opened last Friday. The center was set up to help homeowners who suffered losses in the massive storm to file for grants that will enable them to rebuild.
