Masks are once again required in all indoor public places in New York state, unless an establishment requires proof of full vaccination against the coronavirus, Gov. Kathy Hochul said on Dec. 10. The mandate will remain in place until Jan. 15, when Hochul said she would take another look at where New York stands, and adapt the mandate to the circumstances.

It is déjà vu over all again, with another statewide mask mandate in place because of rising Covid-19 numbers, thanks to the Omicron variant. Gov. Kathy Hochul announced on Dec. 10 that masks were required in all indoor public spaces unless businesses or venues implemented a vaccine requirement.

Before Gov. Kathy Hochul’s new mask mandate went into effect on Monday, the debate about coronavirus protection rolled on at the Rockville Centre Board of Education meeting on Dec. 9. Many parents who came to the South Side High School auditorium voiced their anger with recent decisions by the board and Acting Superintendent Robert Bartels on seating at school events. They asked district leadership to advocate for avoiding mask regulations, as have a few other districts.
