As we approach the event’s 100th anniversary, however, I believe that now is the time for us to reflect on whether continuing such an event in today’s day and age is still appropriate. I realize that even suggesting that we re-examine the merits of Red and Blue will provoke a deep-seated and visceral reaction among many residents of our village. Let me be clear: I am not necessarily calling for an end to Red and Blue — just that this village engage in an open and frank discussion about the event. more

The Baldwin Board of Education held its Community Input Meeting in the auditorium at the Middle School on Jan. 25. The gathering featured a long-awaited report from the district’s Facilities Review Task Force and an opportunity for residents to express their feelings to the board. The board’s role at input meetings is to take the temperature of the community, and after the task force recommended closing two schools, that temperature was decidedly frosty. more

Literacy Zone meetings are now the norm at each of the three elementary schools, as teachers and administrators come together to help improve each child’s reading skills.
