West Hempstead residents voted favorably for the proposed 2016-17 school budget of $59 million, carrying with it a .59 percent spending decrease from last year, and a 1.96 percent increase in the school tax levy. Residents supported by budget by a vote of 870 to 544.

Voters in Malverne responded very favorably to passing the school district’s proposed budget of $54.5 million, which brings a tax levy increase of .83 percent, the lowest the community has seen in two decades. They also easily voted in Proposition 2, which asked voters to approve $1.6 millin in expenditures of the capital reserve fund, which carries no additional cost for taxpayers, the district said.
