After being postponed in September due to inclement weather, the annual Five Towns Community Chest Fair began its three days in Andrew J. Parise Cedarhurst Park under sunny skies on Saturday.
It was no ordinary day of summer camp at Barrett Park on Aug. 2. The camp hosted its annual Carnival Day, featuring a dunk tank, bounce castle, face painting, a variety of games and more.
The Henry Waldinger Memorial Library hosted Reptiles on the Move, an interactive program for children and teens on June 11. Reptile Specialist Marie Leighton introduced the group to a variety of creatures including snakes, turtles, lizards and dragons.
Baldwin High School sent off the class of 2013 in grand style last week. The beautiful weather made it possible for the ceremony to be held outside, which left plenty of room for tossed mortarboards.
American Legion Post 854 hosted a Flag Day ceremony on June 14 outside of its headquarters on Roosevelt Avenue. Unserviceable flags were burned, which is the proper way to dispose of old and tattered American flags. Local Girl Scouts joined veterans in the ceremony.
Lutheran Church of Our Saviour in Valley Stream hosted its annual Victorian Tea on May 11. The affair included a variety of teas and desserts, and the ladies who attended were encouraged to wear their favorite hats.
