Heralds grab six awards in Press Club of Long Island contest

Herald Community Newspapers took home six honors, including three first-place awards, in the Press Club of Long Island’s 2014 Media Awards contest. In addition, Senior Editor Scott Brinton was inducted into the first class of PCLI’s new Journalism Hall of Fame, honoring 25 of Long Island’s top reporters, broadcasters and editors for their contributions to the journalism profession. more

Long Island Democrats came out in force Monday night for a dinner fundraiser at Crest Hollow Country Club in Woodbury that paid tribute to Carolyn McCarthy, of Mineola, for her 17 years representing Nassau County in Congress. The gala’s guest list included Democratic notables from the region and beyond, like House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi and New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman, and it likely netted hundreds of thousands of dollars for the party. more

Herald editor named to Journalism Hall of Fame

Scott Brinton, senior editor at Herald Community Newspapers and an adjunct journalism professor in the Hofstra University Herbert School of Communication, was named to the inaugural class of the Press Club of Long Island’s Journalism Hall of Fame on Feb. 12. All winners of PCLI’s Outstanding Journalist Award, the group’s highest individual honor, were included in the first class of Hall of Fame inductees. Brinton received the accolade in 2006. more
