Rabbi Avraham Holtzberg stood beside Cammans Pond in Merrick last December with head bent slightly to the side and hands clasped at his waist, looking solemn and forlorn at the Merrick Chabad’s otherwise joyful Hanukkah celebration. A month earlier, terrorists had murdered Holtzberg’s brother, Rabbi Gavriel Holtzberg, 29, and his sister-in-law, Rivka, 28, in Mumbai, India.

Joe Wilson was a name unknown to most of us until he shouted “You lie!” at President Obama during the president’s address to Congress on Sept. 9.
Now, the South Carolina Republican’s name has been circulating throughout every major media source in the U.S. and worldwide. Personally, I don’t think anyone can defend Wilson’s action of disrupting the president’s speech while he was addressing Congress. My friends in Congress tell me this was truly out of character for Wilson, and that he is a genuinely nice person and an honorable man.

Funny story: I coach youth soccer. I recently e-mailed the German-born trainer of my daughter’s travel team to let him know that our practice venue had changed from Speno Park in East Meadow to Mitchel Field in Uniondale so the squad could play under the lights. I received this perplexing reply:

When we walked into the park, my grandson made the introductions. Only 2 years old, he’s on a first-name basis with all the VIPs on the scene. The VIPs are the nannies, of course, and he got big hugs from each of them, since they all freelance as baby-sitters, and most have fed him, bathed him and rocked him to sleep at one time or another.

President Obama is asking Gov. David Paterson, a fellow Democrat, to withdraw from the governor’s race, according to The New York Times. Paterson should consider obliging. As a matter of fact, why bother waiting until 2010? He should consider stepping down now.

They set a due date for completion. Part of the project requires the students to interview a science teacher and write up the Q & A.

The Hon. Al Smith, former governor of New York, always urged people to “look at the record.”
Average Americans want to know the basics about health care reform — specifically, how it will affect them. Will they have to pay more taxes? What will the impact be on their current health insurance plan, and will some government medical board curtail their coverage? The American people are entitled to clear answers on these questions.
