West Hempstead residents voted favorably for the proposed 2016-17 school budget of $59 million, carrying with it a .59 percent spending decrease from last year, and a 1.96 percent increase in the school tax levy. Residents supported by budget by a vote of 870 to 544.

In West Hempstead, Karen Brohm, the current school board president, is running for another term unopposed. Rudy Schindler, a trustee for six years, is also without an opponent. Both were instrumental in the passage of the district’s recent $35.5 million bond, which will facilitate much-needed capital improvements to its properties as well as several of its programs.
