Calhoun grads urged to find ways to serve others

Julia Losner, of Merrick, has been named Sanford H. Calhoun High School’s Class of 2017 valedictorian. Losner said she was surprised to have been awarded the distinction, and believes that she made it to the top of her class by taking courses in subjects close to her passions.

Two schools in the Bellmore-Merrick Central High School district hosted fundraisers for the St. Baldrick’s Foundation this March, raising a total of $74,000. The children’s cancer research foundation is known worldwide for its events in which participants raise money and have their heads shaved. more

Calhoun High School’s cheerleading team celebrated a series of firsts this season. It was the first time that two male cheerleaders competed with the Colts in the Division I Co-Ed category. It was the first year that the team made it to the Nassau County Section 8 Championship at Wantagh High School— and won its division. And it was the first time that the squad competed at the New York State Cheerleading Championship in Syracuse. more
