Clarke jumped out of the gates with more runs scored (four) than outs in the top of the first inning of Game 2 of the Nassau County best-of-three Class A baseball championship series against No. 13 Plainedge at Farmingdale State last night and cruised to a 10-3 victory and two-game sweep.

Facing elimination in the quarterfinal round of the Nassau Class A baseball playoffs on May 18, Clarke stormed back with a pair of wins over Valley Stream North by a combined score of 21-3 then swept the best-of-three semifinal matchup with No. 15 Island Trees.

Clarke freshman Sarah Cornell has piled up strikeouts like few others in Lady Rams softball history, averaging 2.2 per inning pitched through the first 20 games. None may have been bigger than the last one she registered to help sixth-seeded Clarke close out No. 3 Seaford, 8-7, in the quarterfinals of the Nassau Class A softball playoffs.
