Though it may seem hard to believe given recent temperatures, spring is right around the corner, and with the change in season comes a plethora of activity among local East Meadow institutions and organizations. But even before the season officially begins on March 20, residents looking to enjoy fun-filled, family-oriented activities have plenty to choose from this weekend.

Bowling Green, McVey and Parkway elementary schools have worked hard this month to encourage reading among children, in conjunction with the schools’ Parents as Reading Partners programs. The schools hosted multiple events, which were sponsored by the schools’ respective PTAs.

Nov. 7 of last year will always remain a special day for Stephen Haller. It was the day he retired, and sold Minuteman Press, a Levittown-based printing company he’s owned and operated for more than 35 years. “I didn’t want life to pass me by,” said Haller. “Retirement is something you prepare for all of your life.”
