Governor Andrew Cuomo announced on April 3 that $40.69 million in state funds will go toward nine New York Works projects that will repair 86 miles of state roads and six Long Island bridges. The projects include $2.2 million for the replacement of a deck above the vehicle-pedestrian access road to Belmont Park, along Hempstead Turnpike. more

The Town of Hempstead began construction in May on Hempstead Turnpike, between Elmont and School roads — in coordination with the Coalition for Sustainable Development's Community Vision Plan, which was first established in 2008. Today, construction workers laid down brick pavers and painted tree grates along that section of the turnpike. more
