Criminal partners Marquis Jones, 24, of Hempstead, and Victor Caputo, 22, of Corona, thought they got away, scot-free, with a very big crime.
According to the Nassau County Police’s 5th Precinct, on March 25, Jones went to the Chase Bank, on Linden Boulevard in Elmont, and cashed three counterfeit checks for an undisclosed amount of cash. On April 22, Jones went to the same bank and presented a fraudulent withdrawal slip, receiving an undisclosed amount of cash.

Two Nassau County Police officers revved up the motor on a device not much larger than a lawnmower engine. As the machine roared last Wednesday afternoon, the officers used its cutters to slowly peel off the driver’s side door of a badly damaged minivan. No one was inside the van, but students at Holy Trinity High School in Hicksville watched quietly and anxiously as the “Jaws of Life” crushed the car’s metal.

Lisa Johannes, 18, was arrested on May 5, at 2:30 p.m., after attacking her boyfriend with a razor blade she pulled from her waistband. According to the Nassau County Police Department’s 5th Precinct, Johannes, of Seville Street in Elmont, was involved in an argument with her 21-year-old boyfriend that escalated in side of her home, when she grabbed a razor blade.

Nassau County police officer Michael J. Califano, 44, was killed while performing a traffic stop on the Long Island Expressway on Saturday, Feb. 5. Califano was assigned to the Highway Patrol Bureau, and was killed when his patrol car was struck by a truck as he conducted a vehicle stop.
