Estelle and Charles Goldfarb were desperate to pump out the 3½ feet of water that flooded the crawl space of their newly built Woodmere home after Hurricane Sandy. So when a truck from the Carle Place-based Citywide Sewer and Drain appeared on the street, it seemed like a ray of light in the darkness.

The American Jewish Committee recently released its annual State of Antisemitism in America 2023 Report, which revealed that 63 percent of American Jews say the status of Jews in the U.S. is “less secure than a year ago” — a 22-percentage-point increase in just one year, and a 32-point increase over two years.

annual scholarship dinner

Kulanu Center for Special Services in Cedarhurst recognized the Glaubach family, Ariel and Baruch, Monica and Simeon and Cory and Jonathan, Jonathan Cooper, Kulanu’s director of Inclusion and Community Support Services and HAFTR senior Rachel Schreiber held its annual scholarship dinner fundraiser at The Sands in Atlantic Beach on Dec. 16.

Inwood native Robert Martin brought his video camera when he returned to his hometown after Hurricane Sandy to help document the damage that his neighbors and friends’ houses sustained for insurance purposes but once the camera started rolling, he knew he had to share the stories he captured.
