It has always been about the kids for Barbara Harrison, the longtime co-director of the Marion & Aaron Gural JCC. But when the Five Towns began seeing an expansion in its Jewish population — specifically Orthodox Jews — in the early 2000s, the JCC, in Cedarhurst, offered only one class for Orthodox children per age level, so many Orthodox families instead enrolled their children in yeshivas with early childhood programs.

Woodmere Club owners Efrem Gerszberg and Robert Weiss have filed a lawsuit against the villages of Lawrence and Woodsburgh, seeking $65 million in damages — money they claim they have lost because of the limitations the Coastal Conservation District imposed on their plan to develop the club land, according to the suit.

Graduating senior Brandon Salazar, 17, and rising seniors Daniel Tkach, 16, and Ryan Weinman, 16, joined the New York chapter of For Future Lungs, the parent organization that seeks to promote the risks associated with smoking and tobacco use for teens and promote events dedicated to discussing the risks of tobacco.
