Residents petition for road repair

It may not be the largest road repair project in the world, but Warren Drive that features a straightaway which leads into a circular cul- de-sac in Woodmere is important to resident Susan Pulaski. Pulaski, a retired schoolteacher, began a campaign to have her immediate street repaired three years ago after being laid up with a fractured knee, and she saw grass sprouting out from the cracks in the road. more

Teaching the kids to serve, volley and rally

Free tennis lessons for children ages 4 to 12 were given at North Woodmere Park on July 22 from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m., which was one of several parks across Nassau County to host "Quickstart" a 3-year old program jointly sponsored by the U.S. Tennis Association Eastern (USTA) and the U.S. Professional Tennis Association Eastern (USPTA). more

A candidates forum held by the Woodmere Republican Club on July 22 bore two surprises: one — that, according to event organizers, the first debate for the Republican congressional primary between District 4 candidates Frank Scaturro and Nassau County Legislator Francis Becker (6th District)) spontaneously played out before the crowd — an audience that swelled to the point of spilling out the door of the community room of the Hewlett-Woodmere Library. more

Hewlett Lawrence soccer team receives sportsmanship award

The Hewlett Lawrence Blue Jaguars, who finished in first place in their division by going undefeated for the Fall 2009 season, have also won the Sportsmanship Award for the Fall 2009 season. more
