Lawrence takes a stand against drug use

A new organization, Students for Students With Addictions, comprised of seven Lawrence High School students, which will address student drug use, was introduced at the district’s second town hall meeting on Nov. 2. more

The Lawrence Board of Education is holding nearly twice as many meeting this school year compared to last year. Board President Dr. Asher Mansdorf has also offered to meet in residents’ homes to facilitate better relations with the community.

Returning to the business of education

Beginning with the organizational meeting on July 5, the Lawrence Board of Education has meetings scheduled for every month through the 2011-`12 school year except for May. This is a huge change from last school year when only six meetings were scheduled. more

Lawrence changes teacher observations

As a means of improving teacher performance and hopefully boosting student achievement, the Lawrence School District and Lawrence Teachers Association have agreed to changes in instructor observations, which are part of annual appraisals and performance reviews. The district and the teachers’ union are currently in contract negotiations. more
