James L. Thayer, known to family and friends as Jim, was born on Oct. 30, 1944 and grew up on Smith Lane in Hewlett Neck. A former Lawrence village historian, Thayer, died on Feb. 20 in Stuart, Fla. He was 72.

In the summer of 2013, I embarked on a life changing experience, I traveled with an orchestra throughout Europe. It was truly rewarding and allowed me to meet people I would have never met. It allowed me to see new places I would have never seen, such as Iceland and Ireland. It also forced me to be more independent.

When Rosemary Kalikow, or “Rosie,” as she is known to her friends, was growing up on Sutton Place in Lawrence, she knew even as a young girl that she would pursue a career in the entertainment industry. Today, Kalikow is the co-producer of an off-Broadway play, “Til Divorce Do Us Part.”
