The Jewish Community Center of the Greater Five Towns held a Pre-Passover Seder at the Jewish Center of Atlantic Beach on Thursday, March 18. The event featured traditional Passover food and rituals performed on the Jewish holiday.

Since our birth as a distinct people over three millennia ago, we have been commanded to retell the story of Passover to our children, not only in light of the historical events which occurred in antiquity, but also in relation to the realities in which we live today. As we sit down for the Seder with our families, I offer you these interpretations of the Passover symbols; from my home to yours.

One striking tradition that is widely observed by Jews at their Passover Seders involves the afikomen, a piece of matzah broken off near the beginning of the evening and eaten by participants “for dessert” after the meal.
