At the Elmont Memorial Library Board of Trustees’ Reorganization Meeting July 21, Joanne Mazzeo was named the board’s new president. Mazzeo, an Elmont resident for nearly 30 years, was first elected to the board in 2007 to fill the remaining three years of Brian Lynn’s vacated seat. She served that three-year term — two years as vice president — and ran again in 2010, winning a five-year term. more

Krevatas' twin daughters, Sophia and Alexa, were born with autism, and she wanted to ensure they received specialized teaching in their home district — not outside of it. more
